Palace to Present Bob Hope Holiday Tribute

The Palace Cultural Arts Association will present a tribute to entertainment icons Bob Hope, Jack Benny, Red Skelton and more at the Marion Palace Theatre on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at 2:00pm.

“The Bob Hope Holiday Road Show” stars Lynn Roberts and Chuck Carson.  The duo will bring a bit of nostalgia to the Marion Palace Theatre with a recreation of Hope’s popular radio shows of the 1940’s, Carson acts as emcee for the afternoon.  He reads commercial copy of the period (Johnson’s Wax, Carter’s Little Liver Pills, etc.), plays recorded jingles of the era (Pepsi Cola, Cresta Blanca, Camels and more) and interacts with Hope and many legendary personalities including Jack Benny, Jimmy Durante, W.C. Fields and Red Skelton (all portrayed by Roberts).

Back at the Palace for a return visit after performing in the Theatre’s 2011-2012 season, the duo brings a whole new show for the holidays.

Bob sings “Silver Bells” and “Winter Wonderland,” Jack Benny plays “Jingle Bells” on his violin, Red Skelton unwraps some new characters and Jimmy Durante belts out “Rudolf “.

It all adds up to an afternoon remembering the old-fashioned Christmas celebrations and days when radio was king.  From the 1920s through the 1950s, the entire nation was connected by the comedians, variety shows and dramas playing out on the radio every week.

With few of the original radio performers left, many are turning to talented impersonators to continue enjoying this particular style of entertainment.

Also helping to keep those cherished golden days alive and well is “The Bob Hope Holiday Road Show.”  Having gained numerous awards and decades of experience, Lynn Roberts is one of the top impersonators in the country.  Most recently he was awarded the Bea Fogelman Lifetime Achievement Award for his 50+ years of entertaining.

Reserved seat tickets for “The Bob Hope Holiday Road Show” are $22 & $18 and may be purchased at the Palace box office, 276 W. Center St. in downtown Marion or by phone at 740/383-2101.

Box office hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, closed Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.  Tickets will be available at the door one hour prior to the performance.
