The John Kennedy Orchestra will take the stage at the historic Palace Theatre at 2:00 on Thursday, September 6, as part of the Marion Popcorn Festival’s full slate of free entertainment.
Featuring music of the ages, The John Kennedy Orchestra’s playlist includes Glen Miller, Harry James, Stan Kenton, Duke Ellington, and Count Basie. Based out of Bucyrus, this 11-piece ensemble features members from Marion, Plymouth, London, and Galion as well as Bucyrus. Local music men Bill Swihart and Dan Erickson are orchestra members. The orchestra’s namesake, John Kennedy, has been playing in bands and orchestras for 57 years.
Currently celebrating its 32nd year, the Marion Popcorn Festival is the largest popcorn festival in the world with an annual attendance estimated in excess of 250,000 over the three-day festival. Other events include a popcorn cooking contest, a fine art show, crafts, Popcorn 5000 5K run, Popcorn 100 bike tour, a community showcase stage, and more.
Main stage entertainment for 2012 includes The Ultimate Journey Xperience, a Journey tribute band on Thursday, September 6; country sensation Josh Thompson on Friday, September 7; and Boyz II Men on Saturday, September 8.
