The local NAMI (National Alliance of Mental Illness) board is inviting the public to their open house on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Ohio State University at Marion campus. NAMI is the nation’s largest grassroots organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness.
NAMI is not only active at the national level but there is a local chapter serving Marion and Crawford counties. A common goal of NAMI is to provide support, education, and advocacy for those families who have experienced mental illness.
The open house will be held in Maynard Hall in the Guthery Community Room on the second floor from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm.
The featured speaker at the open house will be Suzanne Robinson who is currently serving as Director of Programs for NAMI Ohio. Suzanne oversees all of the NAMI educational programs in the state of Ohio and has developed numerous individual trainings, workshops, and presentations for local, state, and national audiences. She is the coordinator for the annual children’s mental health conference for the state of Ohio. Suzanne has several family members with diagnosed mental illnesses and volunteers as a Family to Family instructor in Columbus.
NAMI says they are working to inform the community that there are support groups and classes that will help aid them in dealing with mental illness. The objective of the open house is to explain the purpose of NAMI and the various support groups that are available.
The events and support groups offered by NAMI are all free and open to anyone in the community that is affected by mental illness. If you have questions or need additional information, call their office at (740) 375-0796.
