The Marion Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred Monday, October 15, in an alley behind the 200 block of Hane Avenue.
At about 10:00 pm on October 15, 2012, police received a report of a shooting in the area. Officers arrived to find a male with a single gunshot wound to his left side, just under his armpit.
The victim, 26-year-old Matthew Kindell of Smeltzer Road, told investigators he was walking to a friend’s house when he stopped to urinate by a garage in an alley and was confronted by the suspect. Kindell said he and he suspect exchanged a few words and the suspect then fired two shots at very close range. Both men then fled the immediate area.
Kindell was transported to Marion General Hospital and then flown to Grant Medical Center in Columbus where he was treated and released.
Police said a search of the area resulted in the discovery by K-9 Bosco of a small caliber semi-auto handgun. Investigators believe this was the weapon used in the shooting and that no motive is known at this point.
The suspect was described as a young male, possibly Hispanic, short and thin with a soft voice. He had a tattoo on the left side of his neck, possibly a name. The suspect was also described as having “very white teeth.”
