No. 16/17 Ohio State won its third straight game with a 70-54 win over visiting Saint Francis (Pa.) Tuesday evening at Value City Arena. The win moves Ohio State to 3-1 on the season while the Red Flash dips to 3-1.
Tayler Hill scored 17 of her game-high 23 points in the second half as the Buckeyes fended off a pesky Red Flash squad, who is projected to win the Northeast Conference. Hill also added five steals. Amber Stokes chipped in 12 points while Martina Ellerbe, Darryce Moore and Ameryst Alston all scored 10.
After a back and forth first half, Ohio State finally broke the game open in the second on the strength of an 15-4 run, highlighted by a pair of 3-pointers by Hill and an old-fashioned three-point play by the senior, which gave Ohio State a 62-48 lead with 7:56 left.
The Buckeyes then iced the game with their defense, suffocating the Red Flash and holding them to just four points over the final 8:29 of the game.
Ohio State shot 50 percent from the field, its second game shooting 50 percent or better. Ellerbe, who made her first start of the season, was 4 of 4 from the field and added five rebounds.
Ohio State led by just three, 32-29, at the break despite shooting 52 percent, but committed 12 first-half turnovers. Ellerbe and Stokes led the way with seven first half points.
The Buckeyes were without the services of 6-5 center Ashley Adams, who sat out nursing a minor leg injury.
Alli Williams led SFU with 16 points and seven rebounds.
