Church Offering Variety of Christmas Eve Services, Including Gentle Worship

Emanuel Lutheran Church invites the community to four worship opportunities on Christmas Eve (Monday, December 24th) in their sanctuary at 241 South Prospect Street in Marion. A Gentle Worship Service at 1:30pm, Children’s Service at 6:30pm, and Traditional Candlelight Services at 8:15pm and 10:45pm.

The dual Traditional Candlelight Services began at Emanuel in 1973 and continue to be popular services for members and visitors alike. Each will feature Emanuel’s Adult Choir as well as a half-hour of pre-service music presented by a variety of instrumentalists and vocalists. Emanuel’s Bell Choir will play during the 10:45pm service (which will be broadcast live on 1490 WMRN-AM).

The Children’s Service also has a long history and presents the Christmas story in a way that’s more accessible for kids of all ages while featuring music by both of Emanuel’s Youth Choirs and the Contemporary Praise Team.

2012 is the second year for a Christmas Eve Gentle Worship Service. This half-hour worship designed for those with special needs is typically held on the fourth Sunday of each month at 1:30pm.

Daniel Bradshaw is one Emanuel member who looks forward to these services each year.

“While this season can be extremely stressful for any number of reasons,” Bradshaw explains. “there’s nothing like standing in that beautiful sanctuary surrounded by a few hundred voices all singing Silent Night. The lights go down, everyone is holding a candle, and we’re reminded of a night over 2,000 years ago when the light of God came into a very dark world.”
