Mayor Apologizes if Plows Blocked Driveways

Marion Mayor Scott Schertzer has apologized to people who had to deal with driveways being blocked with snow by City plows as they worked to clear the streets following the storm this week. Speaking at the Marion City Council meeting Thursday evening, Schertzer said even though he was sorry for the inconvenience, he isn’t sure there is anything that can be done to eliminate the issue.

Mayor Schertzer said that his office and the City Garage have been receiving complaints amount plows blocking driveways that residents had previously cleared themselves or had paid someone else to clear. He said he understands residents’ frustrations and concerns, but that all he can do is “sincerely apologize.” He said the City simply does not have the manpower to come back around to clean out individual driveways.

The Mayor and several members of Council commented that they felt the City crews did a good job of clearing the streets even with limited personnel and a lot of snow to remove.

Council member Becky Gustin also praised the work by the sanitation crews who worked to pick up two days worth of trash (both Christmas Day’s route and the regular Wednesday route) in the middle of the storm.
