The Marion Police Department says an altercation at Club Polish in downtown Marion early Sunday morning may have resulted in three separate shootings, one immediately, one soon after, and a third later that afternoon.
On Sunday, February 17, 2013 at about 1:30am, an officer noticed patrons of Club Polish, 152, North Main Street, leaving earlier than normal. Officers stopped to talk with bar management who told them they had closed the bar early due to a large fight that had broken out. They also said they believed a gun was fired.
About 15 minutes later, officers responded to the 470 block of Oak Street for reports of shots being fired in that area. Officers say they located a residence in that block that had been hit by gunfire multiple times from the rear alley.
Three juveniles were home alone at the time of the shooting and police say the adult residents had been at Club Polish during the prior incident. Police say no one was hurt, but it is believed the two shootings are related.
“We are thankful that none of the children were harmed in this shooting, but it does not appear to be for a lack of effort on the part of the cowards that shot at this house,” stated Police Lt. B.J. Gruber.
Another related incident took place at 2:54 am Sunday when officers say a resident in the 350 block of Park Blvd. reported that a white female and two white males entered his apartment. One of the males brandished a gun while the other had a long metal wrench. The suspects assaulted the victim, cut off his pants, and took his wallet.
The third shooting took place on Sunday at about 3:30 pm. Police responded to the area of Barks Road and White Oaks Road for a reported of a shooting and car crash. Police say the residents of the Oak Street residence that had been shot previously had crashed their car into a ditch. They reported being chased by a black male in a silver/gray SUV which was accompianied by a silver/gray car. The victims reported that the person in the SUV displayed a handgun and fired several rounds at the car.
Both females in the car were not hurt. A juvenile who was also in the car was uninjured.
Investigators are treating all of these incidents as related. They are asking anyone with information to contact them at 740-387-2525 or the TIPS Line at 740-375-TIPS (8477).
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is assisting with the crash investigation.
