Marion police say an anonymous tip helped officers to locate a woman Saturday morning who was allegedly being held against her will. One man was arrested and further charges may be filed in connection with the incident.
On Saturday, March 9, 2013 at approximately 8:45am, the Marion Police Dispatch Center received a call from an anonymous person stating that a female was being held against her will at gunpoint. This caller was not able to provide the victims name or exact address. Major Bill Collins said that through the diligence of the dispatchers they were able to work out a possible location where the victim was being held, they were also able to obtain the victim’s possible name.
Several officers from the Marion Police Department responded to the identified location of 198 Fairfax, Apartment D. While no one would answer the door, officers said they could hear voices and movement inside the apartment. A key was obtained and entry made into the apartment where officers immediately encountered a subject identified as Michael Cosey and an unidentified white female. Both subjects said that there was no one else in the apartment, but officers searched the apartment and said they found a very distraught female in the bedroom.
The female was identified as the victim referred to by the anonymous caller. Major Collins said the victim did not appear to be physically injured, but did appear to be emotionally traumatized.
“Without the anonymous call of a concerned citizen, this case could have had a much more tragic ending,” stated Major Collins.
Cosey was arrested and transported to the Multi-County Correctional Center on the charges of Kidnapping and Having Weapons While Under Disability. Police provided no information on any possible motive for the alleged kidnapping.
The case will be forwarded to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office for the filing of formal charges.
