Forecasted Storms Force Cancellation of Downtown Market Debut

Downtown MarionThe Downtown Marion Market will have to wait another week for its season debut. Karen Herr, Downtown Marion Manager, said early Friday afternoon the decision had been made to cancel the opening because of strong storms that are expected in the area.

“We are canceling the Downtown Marion Market tonight due to the torrential rains forecasted to be headed our way, along with the possibility of winds and lightening,” said Herr. “I didn’t want to do this, but safety is always an issue and the potential for injury is too high.”

Herr said that in the future, the general rule will be that if it is just rain, the Market will take place. Heavy storms with wind and lightening though will cause the Market to be closed.

“Please join us next Friday when we will have all the goodies you’ve come to love,” urged Herr. “Thanks for your understanding and support of the Downtown Marion Market.”

The Downtown Marion Market is scheduled to be open 4:00pm to 7:00pm nearly every Friday evening through October 11, 2013. Vendors will set up on the sidewalks of West Center Street, beginning at North Main Street and heading west.
