Three Chicago Men Arrested in Marion on Drug Charges

MARMETThe METRICH / MARMET Drug Task Force said they completed an investigation into heroin trafficking on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 and arrested three men from Chicago, IL on drug-related charges.

Investigators arrested Derrain Land, 23 years-old, on charges of trafficking in heroin. At the time of his most recent arrest, Land had been out on bond for possession of heroin. Earlier this spring he had jumped from the second floor balcony at City Hall in an effort to escape jail time.

MARMET said Land’s arrest led to a search of an apartment in the 450 block of North Greenwood Street where officers located 12 bindles of heroin worth about $500 and seized $350 in cash. After the investigation on North Greenwood Street, Richard Gregory, 22 years-old, and Cornell Shepard, 22 years-old, were arrested for possession of heroin.

The three suspects, all who hail from Chicago, were taken to the Multi-County Correctional Center to await the filing of formal charges.

“This is not a large amount of heroin but it goes to show that a large amount of time and money is spent dealing with the same individuals over and over,” stated Lt. Chris Adkins.

Police made an arrest last week of a woman who was still awaiting trial on a previous arrest. Both times she was arrested for trafficking in heroin.
