Man Arrested After Fleeing Officers

Marion Police DepartmentThe Marion Police Department reported that a man was arrested Wednesday, June 5, after running from officers and throwing away a handgun. Police said 28-year-old Nicholas Foggin had two active misdemeanor warrants through Marion Municipal Court and a Parole Violation holder.

A tip reported that Foggin was in possession of a firearm and officers located him at 645 South Prospect Street in Marion.

Officers said that Foggin initially acted as if he was going to cooperate with the arrest as they approached, but before they could reach him, he took off running. Three officers, Lt. Beaschler, Lt. Adkins and Ptl. Padovano, gave chase on foot. As he was running, officers said Foggin pulled out a concealed .45 caliber handgun and threw it away. The fully loaded weapon was recovered and seized as evidence.

Officers said that Foggin was eventually caught in the backyard of 627 Pearl Street.

Ptl. Padovano suffered a back injury during the arrest and was transported to Marion General Hospital by a Marion City Fire Department squad. He was expected to be released later Wednesday.

Foggin was taken to the Multi-County Correctional Center on the two misdemeanor warrants for Aggravated Menacing and Obstructing Official Business, a parole violation as well as Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Tampering with Evidence.
