Training Workshop to Examine Marion Poverty and Solutions

pfarrHas poverty become an acceptable lifestyle in Marion? You are invited to ponder this question and learn how you can become part of the solution with national speaker and author Jodi Pfarr. This free educational training at TRECA on Thursday and Friday, August 8 and 9, 2013 is being offered by Marion Matters, Marion Municipal Court, United Way, and Marion City Schools.

Pfarr has served as Executive Director of Emma Norton Services and worked several years with Catholic Charities, supervising low-income housing and has worked with the Salvation Army. As an author, Pfarr has written Tactical Communications: Law enforcement tools for successful encounters with people from poverty, middle class, and wealth as well as Jodi’s Stories: A Companion Piece to Bridges Out of Poverty. Jodi has also been a consultant for aha! Process for 11 years.

Pfarr is well known as an outstanding speaker presenting Bridges Out of Poverty, Applying Bridges Concepts, Framework for Community Audiences, Hidden Rules of Class at Work , and What Every Church Member Should Know About Poverty.

While in Marion, Pfarr will be explaining her theories on “Tyranny of the Moment” and the hidden rules of survival for poverty. Participants attending the training will:

  • gain an understanding of the difference between formal and informal language and how to make our communications meaningful,
  • be able to identify resources needed to achieve middle class status,
  • be able to identify barriers that limit their acquisition, and
  • learn how we can commit to making Marion a more successful community.

Registration begins at 8:00am and presentations run from 8:30am to 4:00pm at TRECA, 100 Executive Drive in Marion.
