State Rep. Hosting Town Hall Meeting to Discuss Common Core

Dorothy PelandaState Representative Dorothy Pelanda is hosting a Town Hall meeting on Tuesday, August 20,  2013 at 7:00 pm in the Guthery Community Room on the second floor of Maynard Hall on OSU’s Marion Campus. The public is encouraged to attend to learn more about the Common Core Initiative.

The guest speaker will be Emmy Partin, formerly of the Fordham Institute, who has presented a program on the Common Core Initiative throughout Ohio.

The Common Core State Standards Initiative is a state-led effort that established a single set of clear educational standards for kindergarten through 12th grade in English language arts and mathematics that states voluntarily adopt. Backers say the standards are designed to ensure that students graduating from high school are prepared to enter credit bearing entry courses in two or four year college programs or enter the workforce.

Ohio legislatures approved the standards in 2010 and they are planned for full implementation for the 2014-15 school year.
