The 11U Black Marion County Shock baseball team won the championship for their age group at the Smash Leukemia Wood Bat Tournament held in Columbus. They defeated the JABC Lightning 6 to 3 to take home the trophy for first place.
The tournament, held over the September 1 weekend, was organized to help a coach for the Ohio Sharks, the tournament host, who is battling leukemia.
Marion County Shock consists of 8 baseball and 3 softball teams for youth ages 8 through 14 years. Teams complete throughout Ohio annually.
The Marion County Shock is a non-profit, volunteer organization serving Marion and surrounding counties. It consists of eleven baseball and softball teams for ages eight and up that believes players realize many benefits from its travel baseball and softball programs. In addition, teams focus on community involvement each season via community service events designed to instill a sense of giving back and community pride in each player.
