United Way Holding 13th Annual Hot Wing Eating Contest

2012 Hot Wing Contest Winners from OSUM126 wings in five minutes – that’s what it took to win last year. If you think your team can do better, your chance is coming up soon. The 13th annual United Way Wing Eating Contest sponsored by Buffalo Wild Wings and hosted at Grant Middle School will take place on Friday, October 25, 2013 at 1:30pm.

Each team entering the contest must consist of five contestants. At least one of the contestants per team must be a female. Each team entering must raise a minimum of seventy-five dollars in sponsorship.  There is only enough room for thirty five teams, so teams should be sure to sign-up as soon as possible.

New this year, Buffalo Wild Wings is offering 100 free hot-wings for a practice round to teams once they sign-up and pay for their entry.

Ta Die for Cupcakes has already entered a team in the contest and is raising funds through their Facebook auctions.  All auctions from now through October 25th will benefit United Way.  They are also working on a special cupcake flavor to pay homage to the contest.

The winner of the contest is the team that consumes the most hot wings in five minutes without consuming any water or beverages. The winning team will receive a championship trophy and the claim to fame for the next year.

Last year’s winning team, representing the staff, faculty and students of The Ohio State University at Marion (pictured), ate 126 wings in five minutes. They finished just six wings ahead of the Marion County Courts  team in last year’s competition.

The event last year raised over $1,900.00 for the United Way of Marion County. Students from Grant Middle School raised more than $600.00 by selling paper links as a competition between the houses.

If your company or organization is interested in participating in this year’s contest, contact Kelly Garrett at the United Way office – 740-383-3108 or by e-mail: [email protected]
