State Representative Dorothy Pelanda (R-Marysville) recently applauded the passage of House Concurrent Resolution 36 through the Ohio House. This legislation designates November 2013 as “Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.”
Pancreatic cancer has become one of the most deadly cancers in America with an estimated 45,000 people being diagnosed with the disease in 2013. In Ohio, there will be approximately 1,600 deaths from pancreatic cancer this year alone. As incidence rates of the disease increase, it is estimated that it will become the second leading cause of cancer death in the U.S by 2020.
Pelanda says the bill works to increase awareness of the disease and encourages the continual research of pancreatic cancer with a focus on treatments and early detection.
“Increasing awareness of this deadly disease is a simple, yet important step in helping current and future individuals and families affected by pancreatic cancer,” said Pelanda.
H.C.R. 36 passed the House with bipartisan support, the Senate passed a similar resolution several weeks ago.
