The unemployment rate for Marion County was up a tick in November 2013 to 7.6 percent from 7.5 percent in October 2013. The increase came even as the number of unemployed individuals stayed flat. The difference? A 200 person increase in the available workforce and 200 newly employed people.
According to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, Marion County’s available workforce in October was 29,100 with 26,900 employed and 2,200 unemployed. In November, the workforce increased to 29,300 with 27,100 employed and (again) 2,200 unemployed.
Ohio’s unemployment rate was 7.4 percent in November 2013, down from 7.5 percent in October. Ohio’s nonfarm wage and salary employment decreased 12,000 over the month, from a revised 5,202,600 in October to 5,190,600 in November. One important difference between the state and local rates is the state rate is seasonally adjusted while the local rate is not.
Other counties surround Marion County also saw increases in their unemployment rate. The only exception was Delaware County which stayed flat at 5.2 percent.

The U.S. unemployment rate for November was 7.0 percent, down from 7.3 percent in October and from 7.8 percent in November 2012.
