Wisconsin Beat Buckeyes 82-71

Ohio State fell at Wisconsin Sunday afternoon, 82-71, at the Kohl Center in Madison. Raven Ferguson led the Buckeyes with 17 points off the bench while Darryce Moore enjoyed a solid game on the interior with 15 points and eight rebounds.

The loss drops the Buckeyes to 14-11 overall and 4-5 in conference play.

The Buckeyes had opportunities in this one, but shot only 38 percent and missed several high-percentage shots over the course of the game. Ohio State’s defense forced 17 turnovers and recorded 13 steals, but only managed 13 points off turnovers on the offensive end.

The game was tied early on, 7-7, before a 17-4 run by Wisconsin opened things up. Jacki Gulczynski, who finished with 21 points, scored 15 in the first half and hit two 3-pointers in the half to help the Badgers pull away. But the Buckeyes kept it close with the play of Moore inside, who scored 11 of her 15 in the first 20 minutes. Wisconsin would eventually lead 36-28 at the half.

The Buckeyes cut Wisconsin’s lead in half less than a minute into the second half on a layup by Moore and two free throws by Cait Craft at the 19:21 mark. But UW’s Taylor Wurtz, who scored 17 second-half points, quickly answered with a three-pointer at the other end to push the lead back to seven and hit a second three 3 minutes later to cap a 10-0 run to push UW’s lead to 49-34 with 16:11 left.

Ohio State trailed by as much as 22 in the second half, but would rally and pull to within seven with 2:39 left. But Wurtz would strike again on UW’s next possession with her third three-pointer of the half to push the lead back to 10, 77-67.

Craft finished the game with 11 points and Alston scored 10 and dished out four assists. Martina Ellerbe added eight and grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds. Ferguson also recorded five steals, six boards and three assists.
