When the Cavaliers rallied to win after falling behind the Golden State Warriors, 20-4, on Friday night, Dion Waiters warned, “That ain’t always going to work.”
His teammates didn’t listen. But he was right.
The Cavs fell behind the Los Angeles Clippers, 15-2, on Sunday night at Staples Center and never really recovered in losing, 102-80. They also lost All-Star Kyrie Irving with an injured left biceps near the end of the first quarter. His status going forward has not been determined.
Blake Griffin, celebrating his 25th birthday, had 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Chris Paul added 16 points and 15 assists for the Clippers, 48-20, who extended their winning streak to 11 games, the longest current streak in the league. Griffin has scored 20 or more points in 26 straight games.
Luol Deng had 23 points to lead the Cavs, who slipped to 26-41. Dion Waiters added 15 points, while Spencer Hawes had 14 points.
