Informational Meeting Set for Downtown Marion Market

2014 Downtown Marion MarketDowntown Marion is gearing up for their annual Downtown Marion Market set to kick off on May 9, 2014 and run for 21 weeks every Friday evening from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. An informational meeting will be held this Wednesday, April 30, 4:00 p.m., at the CanDo/Chamber building, 205 West Center Street.

“The informational meeting,” said Karen Herr, Manager of Downtown Marion and market organizer, “is important for first time participants, as well as those who have been a part of the market before.  We try to keep everyone up-to-date on market rules and any local, state, or federal regulations that must be followed.”

The Downtown Marion Market is set up in an open, sidewalk atmosphere along West Center Street between Main and Prospect Streets. Product that is available changes with the seasons, but includes fruits, vegetables, flowers, bedding plants, baked goods, honey, breads, art, recycled art, jewelry, blankets, scarves, and more.

“We welcome anything that is homemade, homegrown, handmade or remade,” said Herr.  “We’re a little broad in that definition,” said Herr, “in that you’ll find Amish-made items for resale or possibly fruits and vegetables from a neighboring Central Ohio county.  What we don’t want to see are mass produced items.”

For additional information or to sign up, go to www.downtownmarion.com,  contact Herr at 740-382-2181 or via e-mail at [email protected].

“You can sign up for a night, a month, or the entire 21 weeks,” said Herr.  “It’s a great way for small enterprises to make money.”

Downtown Marion, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose mission is the revitalization of Downtown Marion as a vibrant central hub for the Marion community.
