Registration Deadline Approaching for “Set The Stage” Theatre Camp

theatre-campProfessional singer, performer and voice instructor,  Johnny Steiner, will direct “Set The Stage” Theatre Camps for ages 6 through 14 years at the Marion Palace Theatre July 28-August 1 and August 4-August 8. The registration deadline for the first camp is Monday, July 21, 2014. The registration deadline for the second week of camp is Monday, July 28, 2014.

“Set The Stage” Theatre Camp has become a summertime tradition for many young thespians of all skill levels.  Youth who participate in “Set The Stage” Theatre Camp at the Marion Palace Theatre learn about the stage production process which includes learning lines and cues, preparing song and dance numbers and performing on the Palace stage. Steiner said this camp will teach students acting skills, give them performance experience, build a sense of accomplishment, and most of all allow time to have fun.

Students are divided into age appropriate camps. Children ages 6 to 8 years will meet from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon Monday through Thursday and learn a whimsical musical comedy written by Johnny Steiner titled “Hey Aesop!”  Featuring familiar folk songs and a fun story-line, this mini musical is inspired by several well-known children’s fables.

“Participants will have a ball dressing up as Aesops animals. But watch out; these entertaining stories all have a moral,” said Steiner.

Students age 9 to 14 years will meet from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Monday through Thursday to collaborate on “Joust! A Mighty Medieval Musical.”

“Participants will be immersed in the realm of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table,” said Steiner. “However, in this fantasy world, all weapons are replaced with musical instruments.”

Complete with jousting knights, delightful damsels, and court jesters, this original musical by John Jacobson and Roger Emerson is designed specifically for this age group.

On Friday afternoon all campers will come together for rehearsals at 3pm and a final performance for friends and family at 5:30pm.  Morning camp fee is $65.  Afternoon camp fee is $75.  Healthy snacks are served mid-session.

Thanks to funding from the William Disbrow Arts Palace Scholarship Fund, a limited number of scholarships are available to students based on need and artistic interest.  Scholarship application forms are available at the Palace Theatre Box Office and must be completed prior to the start date of the camp. Brochures with full camp details and registration forms were recently distributed to elementary and middle school aged children through area schools and are available at the Palace Theatre Box Office.

For more information or to register for the camps mentioned above, please contact The Palace Theatre Box Office during box office hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 9 am to 5 pm at 740-383-2101.
