Top conservative Republican lawmakers are pushing to repeal Common Core learning standards that are being implemented in Ohio schools.
However, it’s unclear whether the legislation unveiled by House GOP on Monday will have the votes to pass before the General Assembly wraps up business for the year.
Legislative hearings will begin next month on the bill, which would replace the national Common Core standards – adopted by the Ohio State Board of Education in 2010 — with new standards that still need to be worked out, according to a release. The bill’s sponsors say House Speaker Bill Batchelder, a Medina Republican, supports the repeal.
