On August 28, 2014 at approximately 1:29 p.m., Marion City fire fighters and officers from the Marion Police Department responded to 353 West Church Street in response to a call asking them to check the welfare of the resident there. An anonymous caller advised that they thought Ian Miller was overdosing on drugs inside that apartment.
When they received no answer at the door, they forced their way into the downstairs of the residence. As they were walking up the stairs to the apartment, a female fled out of that apartment and fire fighters and police said they could hear Miller saying he would shoot anyone who came up the steps.
Officers evacuated neighboring homes, activated the Special Response Team and established communications with the 31-year-old Miller. Buses from the Marion City Schools were held throughout the incident.
Officials said that approximately three hours after it started, the standoff ended as Miller exited his apartment peacefully. He was transported to Marion General Hospital due a minor self-inflicted wound that appeared to be non-life threatening.
A search warrant was obtained for the residence and no weapons were found.
Police said that potential charges could be sought once Miller is released from the hospital.
