Playing an eclectic mix of “Everything You Would Expect from an Acoustic Duo, and a Whole Bunch of Things You Wouldn’t,” will be Marion natives Dan Erickson and Randy Lawrence in the Palace Theatre May Pavilion on Friday, September 19, 2014 at 7:30 p.m.
The two long-time friends are thrilled to return to their hometown and entertain audience members with favorite tunes that cover classic rock, rhythm and blues, folk-rock, country and more.
Randy and Dan first started playing music together sometime in the mid 1970s in the front room of Erickson’s Music Store. Every Saturday, Dan helped his father run the store while Randy gave music lessons. Between students’ lessons the two would collaborate and play tunes from Otis Redding to Johnny Cash to John Mellencamp. Before long, the duo realized they had great performance chemistry and a knack for entertaining others.
Dan (bass) and Randy (vocals/guitar) made their first public appearance together at the June 1977 Marion Arts Festival at OSUM where they were billed as “Randy Lawrence and Dan Erickson – Novelty Songs and Heartfelt Ballads”.
Today, they are most frequently found at Papa Boo’s on Buckeye Lake where they have been the House Band and weekly Wednesday night entertainment for more than 21 years.
For the duo’s September 19 performance in the May Pavilion, seating will be at tables on the main floor and mezzanine levels creating an environment to meet friends for a drink, chat, relax and enjoy the entertainment. A cash bar and concession items will be available for purchase.
Tickets for Dan & Randy are $15 and may be purchased in advance at the Palace box office, 276 W. Center St. in downtown Marion or by phone at 740/383-2101.
