Marion Palace Kicking Off Three Weekend Monster Movie Marathon

Monster Movie MarathonThe Marion Palace Theatre staff is pleased to announce a scary (but not too scary) Monster Movie Marathon celebrating the Halloween season. Theatre management will present three classic horror films on the Palace big screen on the following dates.

Poltergeist, produced in 1982 by Steven Spielberg, was tagged as the ‘First Real Ghost Story.’  The film is devoid of blood and graphic violence but the special effects and plot line makes the movie truly frightening.  The film’s story follows a young family who is living with ghosts in their home. At first the ghosts are non-threatening and simply move objects around the house to everyone’s amusement.  However, soon they become malicious and ultimately “kidnap” the youngest daughter. Poltergeist will be shown on Friday, October 17 and Saturday, October 18 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, October 19 at 2:00 p.m. & 7:30 pm.  The film is rated PG and runs 1 hour, 54 minutes.

Movie-goers will have the chance to see Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho on Friday, October 24 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, October 25 and Sunday, October 26 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. For more than fifty years, this classic film has sent chills down the spines of viewers.  When a secretary steals $40,000 from her employer’s client, she goes on the run.  Tired after the long drive and caught in a storm, she gets off the main highway and pulls into The Bates Motel. The motel is managed by a quiet young man named Norman who is under the control of his dominating mother. But all is not as it seems at the Bates Hotel.  A series of mind-blowing twists and turns make Psycho one of Hitchcock’s finest films.  The 1960 Academy Award nominated film is rated TV-14 and runs 1 hour, 49 minutes.

The Monster Movie Marathon will conclude with the 1984 sci-fi comedy, Ghostbusters.  Show times are Saturday, November 1 and Sunday, November 2 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. This family favorite film stars Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray, and Harold Ramis as three eccentric scientists who lose their prominent positions at a university in New York City where they studied the occult. In need of new jobs, the three join forces and set up shop in an old firehouse to become Ghostbusters and trap annoying ghosts, spirits and poltergeists.  When they stumble upon a gateway which leads to another dimension and discover that unthinkable evil will be released into the Big Apple, they enter a battle to save the city. However, the problem may be more than the team can handle.  Ghostbusters is rated PG and runs 1 hour, 45 minutes.

Movie tickets at the Marion Palace Theatre are $4/Adults, $3/Seniors (62 & over), $2/Children (12 and under) and all current PCAA members presenting a valid membership card.  Movie tickets may be purchased at the Palace Theatre door, 276 W.
