The Arts Palace is a visual and performing arts program of the Marion Palace Theatre and is offering the following classes that will begin soon for children and their families. Space is limited and organizers urge those interested to register early.
Musical Adventures for children ages 2-6 years with an adult will meet for four weeks beginning Thursday, May 6 from 5:15 pm to 6:00 pm. Soothing music, silly lyrics, and simple sign language incorporated into musical storytelling captivate children’s attention. Children will be encouraged to use their imaginations and creatively move their bodies to the music. They will be introduced to a variety of instruments and will learn the difference between playing soft and loud. This class is led by Angie Carbetta, Graduate Capital University Conservatory of Music. Class fee is $20 per family.
Great Books & Li’l Cooks workshop is geared for children ages 4-6 years with an adult. Children will explore a popular piece of children’s literature by reading aloud and preparing food related to the story. Children will learn together by measuring, pouring, and mixing. In the process, they will develop valuable hand and eye coordination, refine fine motor skills, and build beginning math skills. Please limit 3 people per family. The instructor for this workshop is Sarah Kirby, third grade teacher at Pleasant Elementary. This workshop will meet on Wednesday, May 12 from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm and will focus on Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs & Ham. Class fee is $20 per family.
Children ages 8-12 years are invited to learn more about theatre during One Day To Make A Play? WHAT?! on Saturday, May 15 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. During this fast-paced introduction to theatre students will learn about EVERYTHING it takes to put on a show. In 7 hours, participants will learn theatre terminology; practice vocal, physical and mental warm-ups; play creative games; study monologues; rehearse scenes; and discover all design and technical aspects. The day will end with a short presentation and a cast party. Students are asked to bring a sack lunch. This workshop is instructed by Tina Salamone, 30 year theatre veteran & Executive Director of the Marion Palace Theatre. Class fee is $50.
Palace Theatre members receive a 10% discount. Individuals registering for multiple classes receive a 5% discount.
Youth scholarships are available to students through an application process. Marion Rotary Club and Marion Kiwanis Club provide funding for these scholarships. Scholarships are limited and are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications are available at the Palace Theatre.
