Residents and community organizations in central Ohio received $267,294.12 in assistance through Modern Woodmen of America’s fraternal programs and member projects in 2014, according to recently released results from the fraternal financial services organization. The financial contribution supports social, educational and volunteer activities in the region.
“The impact that Modern Woodmen members make on this community – and communities nationwide – is incredible,” said Lori D. Seckel, regional director in Marion. “Through volunteer efforts, educational programs and helpful donations, we are really making a difference in our area.”
Modern Woodmen members in the area are organized into:
- 37 chapters.
- 8 Summit chapters (for members age 55 and over).
- 7 youth service clubs.
These members conduct service projects to meet the needs of their own communities through Modern Woodmen’s various volunteer programs. In 2014 alone, area Modern Woodmen members contributed 2,356 volunteer service hours in central Ohio.
Examples of ways Modern Woodmen members give back to the community include collecting and donating items to a local food bank, raising money to support an individual in need, beautifying a local park and helping to build homes for those less fortunate.
Modern Woodmen representatives also donated 238 free youth educational programs to area schools and youth organizations, educating 15,238 local children about financial literacy, civics and citizenship, exercise and nutrition, and other topics.
Seckel is proud of the contributions made by Modern Woodmen and its members.
“Modern Woodmen provides so much more than quality financial products. We also give back to the community every day through donations, volunteering, education and family-friendly events,” said Seckel.
As a tax-exempt fraternal benefit society, Seckel said that Modern Woodmen sells life insurance, annuity and investment* products not to benefit stockholders but to improve the quality of life of its stakeholders – members, their families and their communities. This is accomplished through social, charitable and volunteer activities.
In 2014 Modern Woodmen and its members provided more than $19 million and nearly 437,000 volunteer hours for community projects nationwide.
