A backpack filled with notebooks, pencils, pens, and erasers are just ordinary school supplies to most kids, but to some children those few items can be the critical difference between fitting in and feeling different. United Way, Scioto Shoe Mart and many other area businesses are teaming up to make sure our local children have the school supplies they need this year.
On Saturday, July 18, 2015 from 11am to 4pm featured sponsors Scioto Shoe Mart and United Way of Marion will offer families and children the chance to “Touch A Truck.” This is a free, family friendly event being held at Scioto Shoe Mart, 206 James Way in Marion, that gives everyone a chance to be hands on with vehicles such as firetrucks, police cruisers, tractors, utility trucks and more.
There will be food, games, prizes, raffles and much more. Plus, when donors contribute $5 to the United Way Kits for Kids School Supply Drive, they will receive a $10 coupon that can be redeemed on any regularly priced item at Scioto Shoe Mart.
The funds will be collected and given to the United Way, who will in turn purchase supplies and donate them to the local schools. Additional donations are appreciated and will be accepted at the event.
“Making sure children start school well prepared is one of the most important things we can do to help them succeed in school,” said Pam Stone, Executive Director of the United Way of Marion County. “We’re proud to be part of such an important community-wide initiative that gives children basic essentials and helps them start the school year off on the right foot.”
