The World Cup Champion U.S. Women’s National Team continued its Victory Tour with a 5-0 win against Haiti in front of a record crowd of 34,538 at Ford Field. The crowd was the largest to attend a soccer game in the history of the Detroit stadium.
Carli Lloyd struck first for the U.S. in the sixth minute. The 2015 World Cup Golden Ball winner was set up by a Crystal Dunn cross in a prelude of what would come over the next 84 minutes. In the 33rd minute, Dunn again had the assist, finding Christen Press with a near-post cross and she volleyed home for her 25th WNT score. Four minutes later, Lloyd added her second, and would complete her hat trick in the second half.
In the final minutes of the match, Dunn rose up for a header off a cross from Heather O’Reilly to earn her first international goal in her first start of the year and just her second cap of 2015. The teams will travel south for another match-up as the Victory Tour continues in Birmingham, Alabama on Sept. 20.
