Pedestrian killed in weekend crash

Troopers from the Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at 7:28 pm on State Route 423 near Barks Road in Marion County.

The crash involved a dark blue 2012 Chevrolet Cruze driven by Ellen K. Messenger, age 55 of Prospect, and a pedestrian.

Investigators said Messenger was northbound on State Route 423 just north of the intersection of Barks Road. The pedestrian, Phyllis M. Foust, age 57 of Marion, was crossing State Route 423 from the west to the east. Messenger was in the right lane when she struck Foust.

Foust was transported from the scene by the Marion City Fire Department to Marion General Hospital. Foust was pronounced deceased at Marion General Hospital at 7:59 pm by Dr. Knarr.

Messenger was not injured and was not transported.

Assisting at the scene were Marion Police Department, Marion City Fire Department, Ed’s 24 Hour
Towing, and Marion County Coroner’s Office.

No charges have been filed and the crash remains under investigation.
