Dennis Paul “Denny” Doc” Wasson, 64, of Marion

Dennis Paul “Denny” Doc” Wasson, age 64, of Marion died Sunday morning, March 6, 2011 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on July 9, 1946 in Marion, Ohio the son of the late Paul L. and Cuba E. (Kerr) Wasson.

Dennis was a graduate of Marion Harding High School in the class of 1965.

Very proud of his country, Dennis was a career military man.  He served nearly 30 years as a Marine, a Naval Seabee, and finishing up in the Navel Fleet Reserves.  His service as a Marine included a year in Vietnam from 1967-1968.

After his honorable discharge from active duty in 1988 he was transferred to the U.S. Navel Fleet Reserves.  He used this time to work on his degree from The Ohio State University.  In 1994 he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in “Science of Agriculture” and an Associates degree in “Arts”.  As a Buckeye he served as President of The Ohio State Student Government for four years and after his graduation he served on the Board of Trustees for a year.

Dennis enjoyed meeting with his friends every morning at Marion Diner and Denny’s.  He will be remembered for his funny stories and jokes, which always brought a smile to someone’s face.

He will be missed by his wife Robin, of 27 Years; his daughter Dawnette Pyne and her husband Craig; their children Chelsea, Kyla, and Karlin all of Oregon; Brother-in-law Rick Van’tHof and his wife Luz of Maryland; Sisters-in-law Tammy Hunt and Christi Woods and her husband Ric both of Michigan; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and wonderful friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant sister.

Friends may call on the family on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 from 4-7 PM at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 East Center Street, Marion.  Deacon Earl McCury will conduct services there on Thursday at 11:00 AM.  Burial with full military honors will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Upper Sandusky.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to Robin Wasson, to assist with funeral expenses and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
