Ethyl Miller, 100

Ethyl Miller’s secret to living 100 years was to “enjoy life”.  On Friday, March 18, 2011 at Woodside Village Care Center her 100 year love affair with life came to an end.

Ethyl was born on December 7, 1910 in Lodi, Ohio the daughter and only child of the late Walter Jay and Permelia E. (Rogers) Sheldon.

On April 12, 1944 she married Chrisst R. Miller.  When asked by a Woodside Village staff member what she did for a living Ethyl laughed and said. “I let my husband pay the bills.  Together they enjoyed traveling, most notably the Grand Ole Opry, which they had visited several times.  Ethyl loved country music and had the opportunity to meet several stars at The Opry.  They also enjoyed traveling to horse races and sporting events.  “Anything exciting, we went to.” Ethyl said. “I wasn’t going to miss anything.”  Chrisst passed away on March 18, 1996.  They were married for over 50 years.

While they never had children, Ethyl said she always enjoyed spoiling the neighbor kids with ice cream and candy.  She had also taken many stray cats and dogs into her home.

She will be remembered for her good sense of humor; almost comedic at times.  She was also very positive and good natured and at 100, her memory was as sharp as a tack.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at the Bryn Zion Cemetery with Pastor Kelly Melvin officiating.

Snyder Funeral Homes of Mount Gilead has been entrusted with the arrangements.
