Sherman A. “Smitty” Smith, 93, of Marion

Sherman A. "Smitty" Smith age 93 of Marion, Ohio, passed away Monday March 28, 2011 at his residence.

He was born April 25, 1918 in Louisville, Ky. to the late Wilford and Ruth (Belleville) Smith.

On May 2, 1942 in Findlay, Ohio, he married Margaret M. Faine and she preceded him in death on August 26, 2005.

Sherman was retired as Vice President after thirty-four years with Henry Lumber Co. of Marion.

He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of W.W.II. While in the service, he was an air traffic controller.

Sherman was a member of Oakland United Methodist Church where he was very active. He loved fishing and his fishing trips to Canada with family and friends. Sherman loved attending sporting events that involved his great-grandson Grant and spending time with his great-grandaughters, Molly and Kendal.

Sherman is survived by two daughters; Carol M. (Smith) Smith of Marion, Ohio and Linda Sue (Steve) Turner of Tuscon, Az. Also, three grandchildren; Doug Smith, Sean Smith, and Toby Turner; five great-grandchildren; Grant, Molly, and Kendal Smith, and Jonathan and Grant Turner; and two great-great-grandchildren; Tenley and Scarlet Williams. Also surviving Sherman is a brother, Lester F. (Maxine) Smith of Fort Myers, Fla.; three sisters; Mary Smith of Columbus, Ohio, Esta (Ray) Cameron of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, and Hazel Banker of Grove City, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife and parents, Sherman was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford and a sister, Virginia.

Sherman was a man loved not only by his family, but by many. To Quote; When they asked you if you knew me, tell them they were a friend of mine.

A Memorial Service for Sherman will take place on Saturday April 2, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Oakland United Methodist Church. Officiating the service  will be the Rev. Rafael Velazco. Burial will take place at a later date. Friends may call Friday April 1, 2011 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home.
