Walter Showers, age 89, of Marion went to be with the Lord Thursday, August 4, 2016.
He was born January 10, 1927 in Marion County to James Corey Leroy Showers and Orpha Enid Showers.
Walter met his sweetheart, Margarete Kaufmann in July of 1946 while serving his country with Patton’s 3rd Army in Europe. They were united in marriage in Wolfersheim, Germany on October 19, 1948.
Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Walter returned to Marion with his new bride. He retired from GM on March 1, 1998 after 41 years of service.
Walter was preceded into Heaven by Margarete in the spring of this year and by their son; Johnny in October of 2000.
Surviving are his sister; Jennie and many nieces and nephews who loved him very much.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 PM in the Hughes-Allen Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Stinson of the Marion Christian Center officiating. Entombment will immediately follow at the Marion Cemetery Mausoleum with military honors presented by the Marion County Joint Veteran’s Council. Friends may call on Thursday from 1:00 PM until the time of services at the funeral home.
