John Everett Arthur, age 81, passed away on Saturday October 15, 2016 at the Woodside Village Care in Mt. Gilead, Ohio.
John entered into this world on September 8, 1935 to the late Edward and Nellie (Eaches) Arthur in Marion, Ohio. On September 24, 1971, he married Fannie (Mullins) in Marion, Ohio.
John graduated from Harding High School and Marion Technical School as an Engineer. John proudly served our country in the United States Army. He was employed at the Marion Power Shovel for 46 years. While he worked at the Marion Power Shovel, he was a machinist, inspector, Union Arbitrator and Union President. He was President of the AFL-CIO and served on the Marion General Hospital Board. He will truly be missed by his family and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and 8 brothers.
John was survived by his wife: Fannie (Mullins) Arthur; three daughters: Susan I. Spencer of Mt. Gilead, OH, Carol L. (Dan) Springer of LaRue, OH and Pamela K. (John) Alexander of Hamilton, OH; one son: Jeffrey W. Spencer of Marion, OH; six grandchildren: Vincent Alm, Johnny Springer, Siri (Schrote) Leibengood, Tristan Schrote, Chelsea Oberdier and Jeffrey Spencer, Jr; and eleven great grandchildren.
Friends and family can visit on Tuesday October 18, 2016 starting at 11am to 1pm at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow visitation starting at 1pm with Dwight Hord officiating. Burial will follow funeral service at the Marion Cemetery with the Marion County United Veterans Council performing the military rites.
