Gary Alvin Ellis, 67, of Marion

Gary Alvin EllisGary Alvin Ellis, 67, passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior on Sunday, October 30, at his home in Marion, Ohio, after a four year battle with cancer.

He was born in Westfield, New York, the elder son of John and Marjorie Ellis, grape growers.  He attended K-12 at Westfield Central School and from there attended Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio, graduating with a B.S. Degree in English and biology.

Gary married Della Louise Coon on August 16, 1975 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Mentor, Ohio. Gary and Della have four children: Brooke, Adam, Ian, and Tegan; three grandchildren: Ashton, Gavin, and Ryder.

Gary spent most of his life as a teacher of people.  He served as a school principal for a time but many years were in the business arena of tax and accounting.  He was an entrepreneur in Marion, leading the Paycheck Protection Company, and was always a cheerleader for small business. His business motto was this: “A lot of people are living off your paycheck. Are you one of them?” Consistently Gary’s intent was to serve his clients with dignity and integrity.

Years ago Gary was ordained to the ministry by Kingsway International out of Des Moines, Iowa.  Although he pastored no church, he considered himself the “pastor to the pocket book.” Locally Gary attended The Gathering Place Foursquare Church and served as its treasurer for nine of the past eleven years.

Memorial service, with food and fellowship following, will be held at The Gathering Place Church, 1300 Mt. Vernon Avenue, on Wednesday, Nov. 2, beginning at 4:30.  Gary’s family invites all to come celebrate Jesus and the life that He gives to us as believers.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Gathering Place Church, Heartland Hospice or Gary’s wife Della directly.

For those who were clients of Gary’s and have questions regarding your tax paperwork, please contact us at [email protected] by December 31st 2016.  Please no phone calls out of respect for the family.
