Phyllis Ann Heimlich, 81, of Waldo

Phyllis Ann HeimlichPhyllis Ann Heimlich, age 81, of Waldo, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2016, at Marion General Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Phyllis was born May 26, 1935, the eldest of three daughters to Cyril and Nadine (Scranton) Blow at the family farm in LaRue, Ohio.

Phyllis graduated from Claridon High School in 1953 and worked for Fahey Bank and Nation City Bank.

On February 18, 1961, Phyllis married Vernon Richard Heimlich, who survives at home.  Together they shared a wonderful life raising two daughters, loving six grandchildren and doting over great-granddaughter, Sophie.  For decades Vern ran the Heimlich Garage in Waldo where Phyllis quietly handled the accounting.

Phyllis and Vern were lifelong members of St. John’s Lutheran Church (Windfall) near Cardington where Phyllis sang in the Senior Choir that Vern directed.  She was active in the Women of the Church where she co-led Bible studies. She taught Vacation Bible School, served on the Altar Guild and Sunday School Board, and used her crocheting skills to beautify baptismal cloths. Phyllis enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, and spending time listening to Vern play trumpet in many bands and at church. One special group she participated in for over 50 years was The Mothers’ Club of Waldo, whose members were some of her closest friends.

Phyllis will be greatly missed by her husband, Vern; children, Lori (Mark) Johnson of Marion and Michele (Brett) Philips of Fairfax, Vermont; grandchildren, Lauren (J.R.) Ailes, Andrew (Meghan) Philips, Libby Johnson, Eli Philips, Matthew Johnson and Daniel Johnson; great-grandchild, Sophie Ailes, and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was preceded in death by sisters Bobbi Henry and Peggy Jessie.
