Mark Elliston Haubert, age 67, of Marion, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio surrounded by his loving family.
Mark was born, one of four children, in Marion, Ohio on June 29, 1949 to the late William “Bill” and Ruth (Stumbo) Haubert.
Mark graduated from Marion Catholic High School in 1967, where he was a member of the 1966 State Champion Football Team, and attended The Ohio State University.
In July of 1980, on the hottest day of the year, Mark married the love of his life, Mary Kay Schell, at St. Joseph’s Church, in Dayton; together they shared 36 wonderful years of marriage raising two children and chasing after four grandchildren. Kay survives in Marion.
To say that Mark was a family man is an understatement; he was generous and genuine with a wonderful sense of humor. While attending St Mary’s, Mark’s ornery behavior earned him special seating in the “fallen angels” row. For those who knew him in later years, it was clear that these behaviors persisted into adulthood.
He would do anything for his family and give a stranger the shirt off his back. Mark had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, especially at his favorite spot in Norton on 229. When Mark was not spending time with his family or fishing, he could often be found watching Westerns on a Saturday morning, having coffee at the AmVets, or rooting for The Ohio State Buckeyes.
During Mark’s working years, he was employed by GTE, River Bend, and Ohio Air Products. At one time, Mark owned Specialty Sportswear and Advertising, and later worked for RHAM as a home care provider for those with disabilities.
Mark will be dearly missed by his wife, Kay; children, Mary Beth Haubert and Nathan (Brandi) Haubert, 4 grandchildren, Amelia, Lorelei, Mazie, and Milo; sister, Becky (Jay) Dilley; father-in-law, Ed Schell, brother-in-laws, Doug and Randy Schell, and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Mark is preceded in death by parents, Bill and Ruth; brother, Jim; and sister, Colleen Haubert.
Calling hours will be held from 4 until 7 pm at Snyder Funeral Homes, GUNDER/HALL Chapel, 347 W. Center St., Thursday, November 17, 2016. A 10:30 am Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, November 18, 2016 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 251 N. Main Street, with Father Ryan Schmit officiating. Private burial will follow at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mark’s honor to NAMI of Marion County or The Prairie Parks Foundation.
