Evelyn Lichtenberger Hinaman, age 90, of Marion, went to be with the Lord Thursday morning, November 17, 2016, at Marion General Hospital following a brief illness.
On August 5, 1926, Evelyn was born in Marion, Ohio, one of two daughters of the late Robert and Pauline (Glasgow) Walkins. She was raised in Mansfield, until the age of 9, when her parents were killed in an auto accident in 1936. She and her younger sister, Thelma, were brought in by their Uncle Ray and Aunt Gretta Dutt, with their two sons, Donald and Merle, in Marion. She graduated from Marion Harding High School in the class of 1944.
Shortly following graduation, Evelyn married a young farmer, Ralph H. Lichtenberger, on May 26, 1946. Together they shared fifty two years of marriage, and lovingly raised two children: Roger and Patricia. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1998.
In addition to being a loving homemaker, caring for Ralph and their children, Evelyn worked for Swink Advertising, Marion Power Shovel, National City Bank in Waldo, and the Marion County Board of Elections.
A woman of faith, Evelyn was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, where she helped start the first Bible school, sang in the choir, and helped with the Women of the Church and Ladies Aid. She also was a member of the Pleasant Homemakers Club, Pleasant Senior Citizens, Pleasant Garden Club, and members of the 9 Euchre Club for 40 years.
Getting a second chance at love, Evelyn was consoled following the loss of Ralph by a fellow member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Bob Hinaman. Winning her over, they were married on May 6, 2001. They shared over seven years of marriage. He preceded her in death on July 15, 2008.
A preciously sweet woman with an even sweeter tooth for chocolate, Evelyn cherished every moment spent with her wonderful family and friends. She also loved traveling, reading, watching television and going fishing.
Left to cherish her memory are her two beloved children: Roger Lichtenberger and Pat (Regan) Hensel, both of Waldo; three grandchildren: Richard (Sarah) Lichtenberger, Heath Hensel and Nolan (Erin) Hensel; seven great grandchildren: Kyle, Kali and Aiden Lichtenberger, Alayna Hensel, and Paxton, Finnian and Evelyn Hensel; a great-great-granddaughter, Demi; a dear sister, Thelma Stone; and a niece, Sandra Stone, both of North Port, FL.
Her family will greet friends from 10 – 11 a.m. on Monday, November 21, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 4535 Smeltzer Rd., Marion. Services honoring her life will follow there at 11 a.m., with Pastor Ed Wahl officiating. Burial will follow in Waldo Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
