George A. Luikart, age 53, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 17, 2016, at home surrounded by his loving family following a battle with cancer.
On February 18, 1963, George was born in Marion, Ohio, the fourth of seven children of the late Clarence and Anna Mae (Marshall) Luikart. He graduated from Marion Harding High School in the class of 1982.
During high school, George found his home away from home at the Kantzer Veterinary Clinic, where he was taken under the wing of John “Doc” Kantzer and family, and worked there for over ten years.
George married the love of his life, Debra Granatir, on January 19, 1985. Together they have cherished their thirty one years of marriage and the joys of watching their children grow.
George worked for both the Pete Miller Corporation and Jim Webb helping with roofing, HVAC, and much more.
Formerly, George was a member of the Emanuel Baptist Church in Marion, and he was recently confirmed into the Catholic faith.
For many years, George served as a special deputy with the Marion County Sherriff’s Dept. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends at Rod’s Guns and More. One of his favorite pastimes too, was watching shows on the history of our military and the wars we fought in.
An avid hunter, George loved hunting deer every chance he could.
George will be remembered for his generosity, love of nature, and commitment to his family.
George will be dearly missed by his beloved wife, Debra Luikart; three children: Melissa (fiancé Kyle Shirley) Luikart, David Luikart, and Cassandra Kanniard; six siblings: Joyce (Jon) Shane, Linda (Stephen) Smith, Albert (Barb) Luikart, Kathy (Barry) Rutledge, Helen Annette (Gerald “Bo”) Lane, and Shawn (Cindy) Luikart; numerous nieces and nephews; and his parents-in-law: Daniel and Alice Granatir.
His family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Monday, November 21, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, GUNDER/HALL Chapel, 347 W. Center St., Marion. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in his honor at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, at St. Mary Church, 251 N. Main St., Marion, with Father Stephen Smith officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.
