Maxine F. Bont, age 86, of Mount Gilead, died Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at the Kingston Residence of Marion following a long illness.
On July 3, 1924, Maxine was born in Ashley, Ohio, the daughter of the late Owen Walter and Frieda Bell (Wood) Denton.
On August 30, 1954, Maxine married John Edward Bont. They shared over 51 years of marriage until he preceded her in death on May 4, 2006.
For many years, Maxine was employed as a clerk at the Fulton School and also Cardington Schools. She also spent 20 years living in Florida. There, she helped take care of the elderly in their homes and ran a driving service to make sure they were able to get to where they were going.
A woman of faith, Maxine was a long time member at the Boundary United Methodist Church and also attended the Cardington Church of the Nazarene.
Maxine had a passion for crafting and her collections. She hand crafted close to 100 porcelain dolls for others and even sewed all of the outfits for those dolls. She also enjoyed making quilts. Throughout her home was her vast collection of ceramic roosters, chickens, and birds.
With a kind heart for the elderly, Maxine spent much of her spare time helping many cut their grass, paint, trim trees, and hang wallpaper in various homes.
Maxine loved her family and cooking for them, especially her fried chicken and homemade noodles. She will always be remembered for her outgoing and happy spirit.
Maxine will be dearly missed by her son, Charles (Kathy) Beener of Marengo; nine grandchildren: Darren Borror, Jerry Borror, Laura Cametti, Lisa Bails, Charles Lee Beener, Craig Reeder, Rhonda Everly, Kelsie Kempton, Brock Everly; 10 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Whitfield; a grandson, Mark Nuce; three brothers: Richard “Duck”, Kenneth, Virgil Denton; and three sisters: Virginia Heacock, Edith McClish, and Evelyn Perry.
The Bont family will greet friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2011, at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 S. Main St., Mt. Gilead. Services honoring her life will be held there on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Laura White officiating. Burial will follow in Rivercliff Cemetery.
