Ruth E. Jerome Albright, 88, of Marion

Ruth E. Jerome Albright, age 88, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on Monday afternoon, April 25, 2011, at the Marion General Hospital.

On October 7, 1922, Ruth was born at home in Marion County, the daughter of the late Carl and Grace (Rapp) Gillespie.  She graduated from Prospect High School.

Shortly following her graduation, Ruth married Virgil E. Jerome on December 6, 1939.  Together they shared 39 years of marriage and raised three children.  He preceded her in death in 1978.

A loving homemaker, Ruth’s first priority was always making sure her husband and family were taken care of.  For many years, Ruth also worked at the County Home as an aid, which would become East Lawn Manor from where she would later retire in 1982.

A woman of deep faith, Ruth was an active member of the Fite Memorial Baptist Church and she “centered” and dedicated her life to her church and church family.  For Ruth, church “was her hobby” and she still enjoyed reading her Bible daily.

A resident of the Rotary Towers in Marion for many years, Ruth considered everyone in those buildings her friends and she spent a lot of time with everyone there.

For Ruth, her true pride and joy were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was always there for them, and especially enjoyed attending all of their basketball and softball games.

On October 2, 1982, Ruth married Andrew Albright, and together they enjoyed 12 years of marriage, until he preceded her in death in 1994.

She will be dearly missed by her three children: Noel (Sharon) Jerome, Virgil (Shirley Lamb) Jerome, and Diana Shroyer, all three of Marion; five grandchildren: Lisa (Larry) Collier, Noel (Tonya) Jerome, Rebecca (Jason) Williams, Megan (Eric) Queen, and Holly Miller; eight great-grandchildren: Samantha, Nathan, and Nickolaus Jerome, Elijah Collier, Dane and Emerson Williams, Camden and Madden Queen, and Hailey Miller; many nieces and nephews; special friends: Mike and Judi Hughes; and special little friends: Sawyer and Sutton Weston.

Including her parents and husbands, Ruth was preceded in death by her four brothers and one sister: Royal, Joe, Carl “Red”, and John Gillespie, and Ann Davies.

Ruth’s family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2011, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion.  Services honoring her life will also be held there on Friday at 2:00 p.m.  Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fite Memorial Baptist Church, and they may be sent in care of the funeral home.
