An original and unique spirit, Cana Alexsandra Stiverson-Hartman, who was 15 years 1 month and 27 seven days old, left this world much too soon on Sunday, April 16, 2017.
Cana was born on February 19, 2002, in Marion, Ohio. She was a freshman student at TRECA Digital Academy, and formerly attended Pleasant Local Schools.
Cana was full of passion, especially when it came to music, animals and her hair. Starting with animals, she loved them so much she chose to become a full-time vegetarian, unwaveringly sticking to it without hesitation. She also continuously added to her own private zoo, doing so with her own funds. Cana loved being involved with 4-H, taking chickens several years in a row along with other various projects and was excited about taking goats this year.
An avid music fanatic, it was a rare occasion to see Cana without her earbuds blasting whatever tunes had caught her fancy that week. She played trumpet and mellophone, and she was also teaching herself to play guitar and ukulele. Recently, she enjoyed attending several concerts with her father, Jeff, as they endearingly tried to tolerate each other’s music. When music wasn’t coming from her earbuds, she was often watching movies with her younger brothers, especially since she was a self-described “Netflix junkie”.
Always eager to travel to new places, Cana loved hiking adventures at local parks, with her favorite places to go being Malabar Farms and the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame.
Full of personality and flair, Cana loved to show her uniqueness through her hair color and style. Once she was given free reign with her hair a few years ago, you could count on a new color and style every month. She also adored Peace Tea, often talking her mom and dad into making quick trips to the store to grab a can of her favorite drink. She also loved herbal peach tea and attending annual mother-daughter teas that were held in honor of her great-grandmother, Louella Kanagy.
Cana will be dearly missed by her parents: Jeffrey & Amaria Hartman (Stiverson) of Marion, Ohio; her three younger brothers: Aidan, Tristan and Ezekiel Hartman; her grandparents: Carolyn Kanagy of Mount Gilead, David Stiverson of Marion, and Randy and Cindy Hartman of Marion; her great-grandmother, Louella Kanagy of Mount Gilead; aunts and uncles: Andrew “Uncle” Zacharias & Nicole Stiverson (Plummley) of Shasta, CA; Emili Couch, of Marion, Lindsey Stiverson of Marion, Jeremy & Jennifer Hartman, of Delaware, OH, Jared Hartman of Vista, CA, and Jennifer Hartman of Marion; she was much loved by her first cousins: Kelsey Hartman, Kyle Hartman, Brynna Hartman, Cason Marks, Chloe Lathrop, Keegan Scott, Joshua Couch and Bennett Stiverson; and by any great-uncles and aunts and extended cousins and friends who will also miss the enthusiastic and original spirit of Cana.
Cana was preceded in death by her great-grandparents: John and Marilyn Jones, Bonnie Knetter, Paul Kanagy, and Frances Stiverson; a cousin, Robert Waylon Couch; and many other relatives.
Her family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, DENZER Chapel, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services honoring her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, at the Gilead Mennonite Church, 7090 Co. Rd. 121, Chesterville. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Chesterville.
