Teresa Gail Haverstock: devoted Christian, mother, grandmother, wife, and scholar went home to be with our Heavenly Father Sunday afternoon, February 18th, 2018 ending her fourteen month battle with cancer. We have peace in knowing that she is rejoicing in Glory now: no more cancer, no more tears, just eternal peace and joy.
Born October 14th, 1957 in Washington D.C to Rev. Gerald and Kay (Brumfield) Morgan, Teresa was 60 years old and lived most of her adult life in Marion Ohio. Graduating from Lancaster High School, she attended Mount Vernon Nazarene College / University where she achieved the degrees of Bachelor of Arts in Business, Master of Science in Management and a Master of Business Administration. She has served as church secretary, children’s librarian, and university professor.
Teresa spent her formative years as a “pastor’s kid”, moving from church to church as her father was called to serve in new areas. She was also blessed to travel and sing with her family to minister throughout Ohio and surrounding areas.
Without question, Teresa’s defining role was as a Godly woman. She cultivated the closest and strongest relationship possible with the Lord. Her faith carried her all the way to the very end. She didn’t lose the battle against the cancer – only her body did: an earthly vessel to be cast aside. Where it really counts – she won decisively and eternally. As a mother, Teresa raised two loving and Godly daughters: Mallory and Hillary, whom she loved dearly. As a grandmother, her coloring buddy, Rory, was her favorite person on planet Earth.
As a loving and devoted wife, Teresa was first married to Geoffrey Arthur Scholz in 1980, loving father to Mallory and Hillary, now also resting in Glory. Teresa later remarried to John W. Haverstock on November 9th 2001.
To say that Teresa was family orientated is an understatement. Teresa always put her children and family second only to Jesus: there was nothing more important to her than her walk with the Lord and her Christian witness. She was an excellent cook, always making favorite meals and desserts for birthdays. Holidays were always worth celebrating with family and good food. Her amazing peach cobbler and her uncanny ability to plan a meal down to the minute are unparalleled. Family traditions were of great importance to Teresa. The Christmas season would always begin by watching “White Christmas” on Thanksgiving Day, and continue with nightly Advent devotions and culminate with some baked cinnamon treats Christmas morning, after a reading of Luke, chapter 2: the Biblical account of the Christmas story.
When Teresa wasn’t cooking and taking care of her family, she could often be found crafting, sewing, crocheting or more often than not reading and studying God’s word. She appreciated helping others by lovingly hand crafting items which could range from crocheted toys and goody hats for Rory or some young expecting mother from church to shawls for African missionaries. Never tiring of the hunt for a good deal, Teresa loved to bargain shop at Goodwill or Salvation Army, or go for the ‘red tag’ at a mall department store, or partake in fine dining with half-price appetizers at Applebee’s with her daughters. Teresa could often be found curled up with a good book. She loved to read and educate herself on any topic, a passion she instilled to her daughters.
Teresa was a long time member of The Marion First Church of The Nazarene, where she was felt blessed to sing solos or with the choir or play the piano. She cherished opportunities to in-home minister to people with visits, taking meals, reading mail to the blind or just helping in any way she could: even dispatching John to lend a helping hand: moving heavy stuff, painting, or cutting trees on occasion. She truly loved the church, but more importantly she loved being the church to other people.
Teresa will be missed by her parents, Rev. Gerald and Kay; husband, John; daughters, Mallory (Anthony) Caeton and Hillary Scholz, granddaughter, Rory; brother, Gary (Rhonda) Morgan; sister, Shelley (Jan) Winnale; and numerous nieces and nephews. Although missed dearly, Teresa is now cured and 100% cancer free – forever. Glory, Hallelujah!

Visitation will be held at The Marion First Church of the Nazarene, 233 West Church St., Marion, Monday, February 26, 2018 from 4 until 7 pm. A funeral service will be held 11 am at the church Tuesday, February 27, 2018.
