June Rose Shumate's life as we know it here on earth is completed and she is now traveling the road of eternal life. June, age 94 of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away Sunday June 5, 2011 at the Crystal Care Nursing Home in Mansfield.
She was born July 28, 1916 in Marion, Ohio to the late Sherman and Rusha (Miller) Barlow. She had four brothers and three sisters. A sister Bonnie and a brother Jerry remain.
A life long and dedicated member of the Church of Christ in Christian Union and a resident of Marion, Ohio, June married Oscar Shumate December 7, 1933 and they raised a daughter Joyce and two sons, Gale and Sheridan.
She was loved and admired by seventeen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and was adored by the children she taught in Sunday School and cared for in her home.
June was married for 61 years at which time she lost her beloved husband, and unfortunately several years later lost her youngest son, Sheridan. An adorable granddaughter was lost at birth. She has lost many family members and friends over the years. It only dampened her spirit for a short time. She was always optimistic, and fun loving.
June loved gardening, fishing, going to church revivals, the pot luck dinners, yearly trips to the church campground in Circleville, Ohio and traveling. June also worked for the Marion County Board of Elections for twenty years.
She was young at heart and found good in all that the family or anyone did. The price you pay for happiness is grief. We will miss her with all our heart. June will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be Thursday June 9, 2011 at 12:00 noon at the Church of Christ in Christian Union at 1709 Bellefontaine Ave. in Marion, Ohio. Officiating the service will be the Rev.
