Rita A. (Stack) Brown, age 89 of Delaware passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Sarah Moore Home in Delaware.
She was born on April 3, 1922 to the late Morris and Mary (Flavin) Stack in Delaware, where she spent her childhood.
A graduate of St. Mary High School in 1940, she was a devoted lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She also sang in the choir at St. Mary’s for many years.
Rita was an avid bingo player at St. Mary’s, The Eagles, and The Elks when her health permitted her to attend. As one who spoke her mind and with a dry sense of humor, she was both generous and gentle. Always active, she enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, and time spent at Indian Lake. A woman of deep faith, she will be remembered for her love of family.
Rita was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years and with whom she shared a wonderful life: Max T. Brown in 1994, son: Thomas Brown in 2004, siblings: Edward Stack, Michael Stack, Catherine Glaze, Julia Hartley, and two nephews.
She is survived by her daughters: Marie (Larry) Davis, Rose (Gary) Swisher, foster son: Thom (Peggy) Everett, Grandchildren: Laura Roark, Tim (Amy) Swisher, Aaron Swisher, Ted Davis, Michelle, Tara, and Thomas (Nikki) Everett II , 13 Great-grandchildren, 1 Great-great-granddaughter,6 nieces, 3 nephews and their families.
Friends may call Monday from 9 – 10 a.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware. A Mass of Christian Burial will then be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Church, 82 E. William St., Delaware by Rev. Augustine Okpe. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Rita’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to the nurses, aides and staff at Sarah Moore Healthcare Center for their loving care. Also to those from St. Mary’s Church who provided communion, comfort, and friendship.
