Joan C. Wood, age 79, of Galion, died Tuesday morning, June 14, 2011, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital.
On May 11, 1932, Joan was born in Morrow County, the daughter of the late Jesse and Elsie (Triplette) McCreary.
Just before graduating high school from Mount Gilead, Joan instead chose to marry the love of her life, Merrill R. Wood, on November 28, 1948, at the Trinity United Methodist Church. Together they shared over sixty two wonderful years of marriage and lovingly raised four children.
A loving homemaker, Joan took pride in making sure her husband and children were well taken care of.
A woman of deep faith, Joan was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
Joan will be dearly missed by her beloved husband, Merrill Wood of Galion; four children: Linda (Ron) Coleman of Columbus, Jerry (Cheryl) Wood of Galion, Danny (Pat) Wood of Cardington, and Tim (Andrea) Wood of Johnsville; nine grandchildren and twelve and a half great-grandchildren; a sister, Thelma Smith of Mount Gilead; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Including her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her infant son, Jeffrey Dennis Wood; a granddaughter, Tiffany Soule; and two brothers, Donald and Vincent McCreary.
The Wood family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 S. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services honoring her life will also be held there on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Gary Lamb-Hart officiating. Burial will follow in Bryn Zion Cemetery.
