Carolyn E. (Smith) Bryant, 72, of Marion

Carolyn Carolyn E. (Smith) Bryant, age 72, passed away July 7, 2011 after her courageous battle with long term cancer.

Carolyn was born in Marion County to Harold E. Smith and Rozella (Morton) Smith. She married Larry G. Bryant on June 22, 1957. He passed away in 2006. They were married for 48 years.

Carolyn is survived by four daughters: Cherie (Lew) Hilgenberg of Edison, Valerie (David) Curran of Marion, Carol (Bret) Emptage of Prospect and Shannon Bryant of Hamilton. She had seven grandchildren: Kimberly (Paul) Reed, Lewis Jr. (Becky) Hilgenberg, Krista (Bill) Davis, Ben Little, Candee Little and Caitlyn Emptage. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Stephen Ulery. Carolyn also had seven great grandchildren: Derek, Isaak and Madilynn Reed; McKenna and Branton Davis; nad Noah and Eli Hilgenberg.

Carolyn is survived by two brothers: Harold (Lynn) Smith of Johnstown and Larry (Janice) Smith of Sidney. She was preceded in death by a brother, Darwin Smith and a sister, Beverly Jean Smith. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Florence Harruff Richards of Green Camp, a brother and sister-in-law, Gale (Darlene) Bryant of Nevada, and many nieces and nephews.

Carolyn worked for many years with our father at Larry G. Bryant and Associates. Most importantly she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her family and friends always came first and foremost in her life. All through her sixteen year battle with cancer she served as an inspiration to all she touched. She will be forever missed. She is finally at peace and at home with the Lord.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 10, 2011 from 4 – 8 PM at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home in Marion. The funeral will be Monday, July 11, 2011 at 11 AM with the Reverend Bill Middleton officiating. Burial will follow at the Caledonia Cemetery.
