Bernard H. Luers, Jr., 85, of Marion

Bernard H. Luers, Jr., age 85, of Marion, died Friday, July 8, 2011, at 2:05 pm following a brief ill health.

He was born February 17, 1926, in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Bernard H. and Eleanor (Sicking) Luers.  On November 7, 1953, he married Helen L. (Bludau) in Cincinnati, who survives.

He came to Marion as an agent/manager for Western Southern Insurance and retired with over 28 years of service.  He then drove for Marion Transit for 10 years.  He formerly was a VFW, American Legion and Moose Lodge member.

Bernard served 8 years in the U.S. Army in WW II and Korea as a tank commander in combat.

Besides Helen, he is survived by one daughter, Susan A. Luers of Chicago, Illinois; one son, Timothy D. (Audrey) Luers of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and nephews.  A sister, Lorraine Luers and a brother William Luers are deceased.  A sister-in-law, Loretta Luers survives in Cincinnati.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Church, 251 North Main Street, Marion, at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, July 12, 2011, with Fr. Michael Nimocks officiating.  Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, Cincinnati, Ohio.  Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the mass.
